Aaaaaaanyway, so I try and I like, but I'm not entirely sure where to go from here. I need at least a 54" but much prefer the idea of a 60" round. And I can't very well have two white modern tables in adjacent rooms. So I've been scouring Craigs for interesting traditional/transitional-ish pedestal tables with great shapes that could be painted/lacquered white. (Poor husband can't catch a break, can he?)
You get a lot of this when you search for round dining tables in Kansas City. Like, a LOT of this:
Which is fine and all (I actually grew up with a very similar setup), but not what my Baughman chairs have their beautiful little hearts set on. I'm liking some of these options, but can't seem to commit to any of them:
Am I over-thinking this one or am I right to hold out?
Remember, shiny and white. But it's gotta play ball with those chairs.

Update: The clear favorite with the square base is 48" (read: too small to seat 6). Sad face.
Another one of you KC peeps should go for it! It's such a great shape!

i love the contrast too! i like all the tables you found individually, but maybe they are too chunky for your chairs? if I had to pick one though, it would be the one with the square base...it could be cool and seems a little sleeker than the others.

I have a big round pedestal table from Restoration that we got about a million years ago that I'm getting ready to sell. The base is kind of Mission style (remember the old Resto days?). Its a nice finish but of course would look even better white. If you are interested let me know and I can send you a pic.
I think the grey one with the square base could be pretty amazing!

Hmm, I like the second and third ones down..maybe a Duncan Phyfe style would be cool?
I like the square based one. It feels more modern, yet traditional too. The finish is a whole other story though...
new dining room tables that aren't cheap or ugly are way too expensive. at least for me and i suspect for anyone with kids or kids coming.
i'm really liking the 1st option and the last.
the first is interesting and would be amazing painted glossy black or a similar color to the walls in a super duper lacquer (take it to a body shop). and look awesome with the baughman chairs.
same goes for the last one. i like that it's on wheels.
and i am with you on the rug thing. if it's the main place you will eat meals a rug is a no go in my book unless you can hose it off.
I think you should quit looking for tables and focus on a pedestal. Find the ideal base than put a round top on it.
I say, I think you're on the right track! In fact, If the price is right, I think numero 4-the empire table or the last one on castors (I'm a sucker for brass castors) are perfect. I love the classic lines with your oh-so-sexy chairs and a fresh white coat of shiny paint would look amazing with your wall color. Do it!

I think you're better off with an older table. You'll get a lot better quality for a much better price. I'm also shopping for a round dining table and the one I found at Thomasville was SO not worth the $1200 they wanted.
yes! you guys are SO on the same page! the 2nd and the last one are definitely my faves as well.
First, I'm having the same issue with my breakfast area- brown chairs, brown floor, and it bugs me, but I've seen it done before and it looks great when I see it. My first thought when I see yours is- fab! Second, I have a big round table in my dining room we bought from io metro and I wish I'd have held out for vintage. There's just so much more character in vintage lines ya know? I'm absolutely in LOVE with that last one. So gorgeous! Finally, oh my goodness gracious, I hear you on the craigslist search results. I curse the OKC craiglist pretty much every day. One more thing- your dining room is legit. I'm pinning it yo!
I like the silhouette of the table that looks like it's painted gray. I think it would combine beautifully with those gorgeous chairs!
