imagine how shocked and delighted i was the other day to come across a stunning restaurant photo, only to discover that it was the american restaurant located here in kansas city! i'm pretty ashamed to admit (especially now, after seeing these amazing images) that i've never been to the american, despite the fact that it is literally in walking distance from my office. originally designed by warren platner in the late 1960's, it was meant to be the crown jewel of j.c. hall's crown center (he's the founder of hallmark cards, in case you didn't know) and a true celebration of american cuisine. perhaps next time i have something to celebrate, husband and i will be visiting this gorgeous (and, from what i'm told, delicious and highly regarded) restaurant?

the American restaurant is sooogood! i could only afford it during restaurant week though!!
I've always seen photos of it (being Platner) but never really knew much about it or where it was located. How very cool!
I need to get out more! I love when I come across something fabulous in Kansas City!
I have always loved that decor and had no idea the original design was still in place! You have to go and take secret pics and let us know how it was...

Oh wow, that is awesome! Both the ceiling and windows look amazingly gorgeous, and the combination creates such an open ambiance to the whole restaurant. The awesome decor make this a great place to sit down and dine.
