That post title is deceiving. "Progress" should definitely be loosely interpreted. The only solid progress I've made on this room is the gorgeous Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggins chairs scored from Stephanie Scofield on Scowters.

Which I'm still completely obsessed with except one little thing....It's been tough to find a table that can hold up to those beauties. At least, a table that I'm willing to pony up for. That is round. Preferably 60" round with a pedestal base.
I mean, is that too much to ask?!
See, if I were a good designer, I would be putting together a moodboard and executing piece by piece. You know, I'd have my window treatments figured out....a sideboard/credenza (well, I had this until we decided to move it to the nursery)...accessories and wall art...lighting...possibly a rug...and, of course, a table. All of that would be selected so it fit together just so. But is that how I do anything?
Hell to the no.
I collect slowly with whatever I come by and/or will justify paying at any given time. Which is fine. I've learned to embrace this. Except that, like I said earlier this week, the nesting is setting in and I just want things generally finished. Or at the very least, I'd like a dining table.
High Gloss ... RIP
* MAN, I want those chairs. JK! I basically have those chairs. HOLLA *
The problem, if you will, is that I've gone somewhat dramatic with this room. Between those glorious chairs and the rich glossy blue on the walls (trim painted out to match), it's becoming rather...glam? And I love glam as much as the next girl, don't get me wrong. But I kinda want relaxed glam if that's such a thing? Because the rest of the house isn't glam. It's eclectic, casual and a wee bit traditional.
And I need the dining room to be like that, too. So I've rounded up some options (mostly for looks because I'm not willing to pay any of these prices just yet....although I have had my eye on one for quite some time. Maybe I just need to pull the trigger? It's even on sale right now!)
zinc door // crate and barrel // 1st dibs (too small, but amazing!) // zinc door
Why can't i just find something nice and warm with just the right amount of grit like this?
Although, I'm pretty sure both of these local boys are still sitting right where I saw them last....
I'm really only serious about that one with the toddler friendly angles and edges....
Could I maneuver that into a round with marble top (a la this but with blue walls) or would that be too much brass?
Will happily accept links in the comments and moodboards in my inbox! :)
You need that last in in your life....its too good! Do not worry about angle or glass because of toddler....its not a coffee table! And if you teach them to live with this kind of furniture they will figure it out. I almost didn't baby proof anything. Its harder work at the time but very quickly they know what to touch and what is fine. Get it!!!
ReplyDeleteThe brasses are different finishes though, right? In the pic above with your chairs they had a table with a metal finish as well. I think that could look smashing with a marble top. But either of those last two round options would work really well too I think. Pull that trigger girl and celebrate with dinner on your table. :)
ReplyDeleteI saw that last table too and was drooling! Hard to say no to that!!!
ReplyDeleteNot even one picture of your dining room?!? I am protesting.
ReplyDeleteok i feel like that settles it. when you get ready to reupholster those freaking amazebuckets chairs, you should do them in saddle leather! or white ostrich, i still stand by that one. i LOOOOOOOOOOVE the burl table. and btw - if you get that tassel table i will march over to your house and hit it with a hammer.
ReplyDeleteHave you priced out marble tops? Mega pricey... Maybe $700?
ReplyDeleteEither get the brass and live with it as is (it will be kid friendly enough... not your everyday table, right?), or wait for an antique/vintage wooden round table.
Just my two cents :)
Oh man, that burlwood one makes me all giddy and the last one makes my palms sweat. Your room is gorgeous already btw - Tom Dixon lights get me every time. I'm much the same, stuff happens as it happens because I can't always find what I want RIGHT NOW because my bank balance simply won't support that kind of impulsiveness ;) and once I've got it, I've often seen something ELSE I love even more. xxx
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Albertina. I put plug covers over my electrical sockets and took the tray of my pretty breakable things off my cocktail. That's the extent of my baby proofing. Babies are smart if you teach them parameters and what they are aloud to play with. Get the marble girl, it will stand up to all the spoon banging coming up in your future.
ReplyDeletei can offer you no help bc i am in the same predicament. i need a better table. i think i might just paint the one i have in some deep mysterious teal-y blue high gloss and do the walls the same only in a velvety matte. then my white and brass chairs will pop. do a big, soft, muted persian underneath and call it a day. you could steal that idea if you want. i probably won't around to it until 2015 anyway.
ReplyDeleteStunning pics. Could I ask if you can identify the wallpaper in the first picture? X kl
ReplyDelete@Albertina right?? it's so amazing. just wish it were round.
ReplyDelete@Bethany yes. leather all day errday.
@Erin maybe i could fake the marble? or a similar stone? would just need to be heavy enough.
@Kimberly i wish that was my space! didn't realize i missed the source. good eye!
@MFAMB that sounds stupid good.
@K-L i believe it's imperial trellis from schumacher.
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! xxxxxKL
ReplyDelete@K-L you are most welcome, m'dear!
ReplyDeleteGreat choices! I love the burl and the brass is just too good!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I scored the exact same chairs yesterday at the flea! So psyched!
I actually like the C&B and Craigslist options.....how damaged is damaged????
ReplyDeleteI know you keep an eye on Craigslist but I saw this and thought of you.

Hello! I happened upon your blog from ummm, well, now I can't find it! Anyway-- funny because I saw that brass table that I LOVE-- and am thinking it looks so familiar... turns out it's the same one I spied in the window down at the West Bottoms Flea Markets! So I stalked you to discover you are here in KC. I'm from KC too-- and also occasionally work with One Kings Lane- hope to run into you one of these days! Peace...
ReplyDeleteWell, if you aren't going to snag that last one, you can just ship it up here to me to use for my desk. IN LOVE. What about having something made? You could choose exactly the shape and size and finish you want - I'm going to vote wood, btw. I find choosing a table to go with chairs SO much harder than choosing chairs to go with a table. Shouldn't be harder, but it is. Your chairs are worth it though ;)
