I love the piece, but I do not love the fabric. Animal print is up for consideration. I always love that look on vintage settees. I think it really brings them up to date with a little edge. Timeless edge, mind you. We do not be reupholstering on a whim 'round these parts. I would sell a kidney to get my hands on some delicious Scalamandre velvet. Or I do love the variation of color in this (affordable) Calico Corners option. Ooooor I'm pretty taken with this beauty, if anyone knows what it is:
I can't afford it, can I? Maybe I should be open to a little Mei Ling? Of course, I have to take the neighboring dining room into account. Quite honestly, I've considered a color similar to the one in the photo above...and it looks to me like it would work juuuuuuust fine. Or maybe the same deliciously warm white with fabric wall panels?
The sunroom still needs a rug (cowhide?), a pair of ghost stools and a modest pedestal table. I looove my Jenny original in this space, and I think I'd like to play off that palette to give the garage door a pop of color (try not to judge the trim that be old and busted).
Big shoutout to Jacquelyn for her paint recommendation! I am deeply taken with Benjamin Moore's White Dove. It's clean and crisp, but still very warm. Naomi tells me that I need to paint the trim the same color...which is clearly still on the to-do list. And, dear God, I know how bad that orange floor burns your eyes. I really wish we'd stained them before move-in, but the 3-week closing period didn't allow for much prep. Maybe someday...you know, when the house is full and it's totally convenient.
Help me find a fabric, party people! I neeeeed you.
My jaw dropped looking at that settee! Amazing find, and I like that idea of timeless edge. Wish I could help you here, but you know that fabrics are not my forte ;)
ReplyDeleteGirl, I feel ya. I lived with orange floors for 6 (yes 6) years before finally getting them refinished this year. Just cover em up with some pretty rugs for now. Distract! I actually don't hate the fabric on that settee. It looks so bright and vibrant - is it mustard yellow or orange? I think I have the CC leopard option on some pillows and I love them very much. So, I can see that looking lovely. And leopard is classic. I have no idea what that other option is (in your photo), but yes, I'm guessing it's expensive. If I have a brainwave on another fabric, I will let you know, but I'm liking the leopard idea!
ReplyDeleteSUCH a great piece!!!! I think animal print would be gorgeous..but a pop of color would look great too!! I have a settee that seriously has muslin on it or some cheapo plain fabric so I am not the best at picking fabrics. I just love it so much, Tobe!!! xoxo
ReplyDeleteLooks so great! I love all of your ideas and the white walls make everything look so clean and bright!! I never find anything on Craigslist. Major score! If you ever do your floors I have a great recommendation. I have to look them up. They did our old orange parquet floors and our buyers thought it was brand new. So excited to see more of your house!
ReplyDeleteHoly amazing settee goodness! You could cover it in a plastic bag and it would still look fab. No doubts you'll find the right match.
ReplyDeleteLooking good lady! Jealous about that settee!
ReplyDeleteOh all that is holy and good, that is a SERIOUSLY gorgeous piece!! Love it!! I was rather smitten with the idea of leopard print (still am) until I saw that amazing turquoise fabric and my jaw dropped! That said, all of your choices are rather fabulous. I'm sure whatever you decide, it's going to look stunning. Also, I'm a little jealous of your Jenny painting! ;) xxx
ReplyDeleteI just reupholstered a vintage couch in a fabric similar to this one (http://www.fabricguru.com/p-merrimac/turnstone-chenille-upholstery-fabric-linen)and it turned out beautiful, you can see pics of it here: http://katiewaddell.blogspot.com/2012/09/vintage-couch-before-and-after-or-proof.html
ReplyDeleteLOVE that settee, what a score!!
such a cute find!! I'm so proud. Honestly you lost me with all the options. Saturated walls? Sure, sounds yum. As do white walls. Animal print vs yellow chinoiserie? Were those the choices for upholstery? Animal is good for a room like a kitchen because usually there isn't much to compete with it. This is in the kitchen, right? I'm seriously so ADD today...
ReplyDeleteI'm soooooo glad you got that settee! That is all. I have nothing to offer in the way of suggestions because the reality is, you know way better than I do.
ReplyDeleteYou have my dream settee. I never find stuff that good on CL... Animal print needs to happen, I will keep an eye out. xo
ReplyDeletewhat a totally fun yellow settee! love!
ReplyDeleteoh - ok, so you dont LIKE the yellow settee. I LOVE that CC Jamil velvet fabric. SO cheap and its FANTASTIC. Perrenials makes an outdoor fabric that looks like Scalamandres' Le Tigre, but it's OUTDOOR velvet and [only] $80/yd ... and when I say only, that's still ass expensive. what about the fun black/white spots that Jamie Meares sells at Furbs for like $20/yd? that could be GOOOOOOOOD.
ReplyDeleteoh hey - wait, what about this joint on spoonflower?!

love the white dove!! LOVE the sette!! oh the things you could do with that thing
ReplyDeleteI hope that you pushed through with the idea! It is a beautiful design, and I think it will fit your sunroom. There are a lot of patterns on this room design, but everything comes together perfectly. If you worry about the finances, there are some contractors that offer fine remodeling job at a reasonable value. All you have to do is scout one and show them your inspiration. They might give you an advice on how to make this happen at a limited budget.
