skylights. how do we feel about them? obvious gloriousness for the lighting factor, but do they get insanely dirty? do they need to be cleaned annually/semi-annually/ever? i think i want them either way.
These are all so gorgeous. I adore both kitchens, the spooky portrait room and the greenhouse like sunroom- I'd LOVE to have one of those on the back of my house.
I grew up with a skylight ceiling in the kitchen and it was magical. I think you have to be really smart though and shell out the extra cash monies for high quality/insulated/UV blocking fanciness. I also had 2 recessed skylights my living room in PV and they were OK. A bit dingy but I didn't look up at them as often as I though I would, so I didn't really notice. :)
I had an amazing skylight in my bedroom my first year at university. It was a small room in the attic space with a sloped ceiling, so it was like taking a big lid off the room (I lived right on the sea-front too). I found it got a bit grubby, but a good rain shower was generally enough to make it look presentable again. I'd say they're certainly worth the odd dinginess.
