statement from the artist:

"My art stems from a curiosity with the world around me as well as a desire to understand it "in the round." As opposed to a scientific pursuit, my investigation is focused on relationships. This study is macro as well as micro, and I am particularly interested in how smaller pieces relate to and function together in order to create a larger whole. There is much beauty, tension and contradiction to be discovered and exposed.

Drawing from both my painting and textile background, my current work focuses on the relationship of space or place. I am inspired by the way humans dissect, reconfigure and relate to our world as well as how the natural world interacts with and affects humanity.

Maps play an important role in the visual language I use to link landscapes to humanscapes. Maps break down the three-dimensional world into more simplified and defined components on a two-dimensional plane for social, political and navigational purposes. With my paintings I seek to explore and re-contextualize these maps by creating new spaces and forms."

The I Am Project :: see beauty

happy monday morning, all! i am really excited about this morning's post. amber, melanie and i have been so grateful for the outpouring of support that our japan relief prints have received (they are still available throughout the month of april, btw). it has been an especially great honor to hear from so many people that they are being given as gifts, some of you even compelled to tell us who or what for.

and that feedback really made us think. we love that what we produced was able to touch others, to build someone up. and we want to do more of that in the best way we know how to as designers. so we're going to start a series here on BIA known as The I Am Project, where each week, one of us will post a phrase, word or quote that might act as a day-brightener, reminder, or something to pass on to someone who really needs it.

i'm in hopes that this will be a great addition to BIA. let me know what you think as the series grows.

drinks, anyone?

loved this bar setup the second i saw it on design*sponge. so fresh and bright - and the art adds the perfect bit of whimsy. i have an old tv cabinet that i've gone back and forth about lacquering in a bright white, and just can't seem to commit. after seeing this, though, i'm thinking about it some more....
