Interiors // Rachel Bilson + Kishani Perera

November 2, 2013

Of course Kishani Perera nailed it with Rachel Bilson's living room in this month's Lonny magazine
Add it to the inspiration files.

Chic, inviting and comfortable. Perfection.
Kishani's work has always been a favorite.

Sometimes a little splash is all you need.

Love the sweet little wreaths hanging in the windows, too.

Interiors // White on White on White

October 9, 2012

My friends, the obsession with white walls persists. I simply cannot help myself.

Here's the deal: I have to get this house in some semblance of order. Besides the fact that we've been in it for almost a year now, we are scheduled to host Thanksgiving dinner for both families in about a month (!!!!!) and shiz be in its original state. At this point, if it means painting everything a warm, delicious white and later coming back to apply color, so be it.

Let's just be honest; no one demonstrates the sheer power of white like those cats behind Lonny magazine. Patrick Cline's camera lenses are made of straight up magic glass.

I've been driving myself bananas trying to find just the right rug for the dining room, around which all other design decisions can be made. (This isn't a general truth. I've just made it mine.) And since I cannot be without color, I knew this is one place it would be inserted in a big way. Six Ebay fails later, I finally scored one, and I cannot WAIT for its arrival!

What say you? Will white walls suit?
(Ebay rug shot inserted into pre-move pic of the dining room....sort of ghetto, but you get the idea.)

I just have to keep reminding myself that there are a thousand other glorious ways to apply color...Challenge accepted!

interiors // favoring white

March 24, 2012

there must be some severe shift in the planetary alignment or something because i've been favoring white as of late. which is not unheard of as far as spaces i'm occasionally drawn to . . . but it's really something i never consider for my own home.

this got the whole thing started:

because the chairs and those mirrors don't hurt anything either.

my dining room and office are begging for it.
any warm whites i need to know about?

interiors || luxe and warm

December 21, 2011

well, we're in the final stretch, folks. are you ready for christmas? seeings how i have yet to purchase my holiday stamps and get my christmas cards out (even though they've been addressed for weeks), you can tell i'm totally on point this year.

i did take some time to put together a little wish list over at savvy home with many gorgeous items that are sure to make their way under my tree . . . in my dreams. come by to see what i'm lusting over!

something else i've been lusting over in an unnaturally big way lately is fur. fur fur fur. i want it on everything, and i'm successfully finding ways to sneak it into every room of the house.

a girl's gotta have priorities, you know. nevermind that we should be saving pennies for a new fridge, furniture for G's room, a dining table, anything for the formal living room . . . nope. i just want fur.

* to be clear, we're only talking faux fur in this house!

* also, yes, G might be getting a faux fur bean bag for her room. she wants a bean bag + she wants i want fur = double win!

house hunting || kill me now

August 25, 2011

i am massively uninspired today.

frankly, looking at amazing spaces lately just makes me want to kill myself.

why do none of them exist in my city?
(in our price range, in the right parts of town, with our qualifications)

i really don't feel like we're asking for that much.
what were builders and architects smoking in the 70s and 80s?

nothing that made them better at their jobs, let me tell you.

but it's out there. i know it.

meanwhile, dreaming of finding a place with giant black windows seems
as likely as dreaming of finding the right place.

help. me.

interiors || lonny magazine

okay, so you've surely already seen these lonny features. but i can't not post them. i mean, when i look back at this blog months or years from now, i'll want to be reminded of these amazing spaces. and how i had good enough taste to appreciate them :)

not that you're obligated to like them. but if you do, perhaps you'd like to tell me your favorite aspects?

first up, the delicious chicago apartment of lauren gold, design director for nate berkus associates

the past few issues have featured this glam look with metallics and black and warm whites, and i'm completely okay with it. favorite parts: the blackout open shelving, that sic chrome lamp, the mixed metals and that dining table
paired with those chairs (duh).

and then there's ruthie sommers' living room. i died a thousand times when i saw this spread.

i really can't handle the sheer genius of this place. i've come to hate the overused term "eclectic" in the last few years, but this living room is style-that-shall-not-be-named done exactly right. it's pecuuuuuliar, and i couldn't be more in love. i love that every element is amazing on it's own, but that they can all live in such harmony. chaotic harmony. which is my MO, so i approve   >>>>>>>>>   do you?

interiors || perfect balance

i'm also having a hard time getting this beautiful fernandez and true interiors space out of my head from the latest lonny magazine. i love absolutely every last detail of this space.
