Art Love: Madeline Denaro

March 23, 2015

I am feeling really inspired by the bold abstract paintings of the talented Madeline Denaro.
Had to share.

I came across Trine Panum's gorgeous work in a fluke Pinterest visit last week. (I rarely have luxury internet time anymore.) Needless to say, I am totally swooning.

I've decided that I'm either coming back as a brilliant painter or a house cat in my next life.
Artistic genius or eighteen hour naps? Toss up.

pretty sure any room with one of these would be strictly off limits at my house.

A little bit of Wearstler can brighten any Monday morning!

Also, this is awesome and is a much cooler depiction of how I would describe my life right now.
Everything is in. slow. motion.

Lauren Santo Domingo's office, designed by Daniel Romualdez via Architectural Digest

Most of us have probably seen this image already. Being that I just got my issue of AD, I finally got to devour it in all of its glossy glory and I'm dying. Love the mix of pattern, the pink on the walls with those black door frames, the bold simplicity of those prints, the grounding stripes. And then there's the burl wood tables that make my heart explode into a thousand tiny pieces. Too good.

I have been going back and forth between a gray with lavender undertones and a peachy coral for my office at home, and this really makes me lean towards the coral.

Please note that I will NOT be painting said office anytime soon. The will to paint has expired completely. Over it. We slaved over the entry/stairs/second floor hallway this weekend and I don't think either of us (or my mom, who is both a saint and a crazy person because she loves to trim) would care to see a paint brush for some time. I am very very happy with the results from both floors, but the staircase leaves a bit to be desired. I'll take care of that once I can stomach the idea of painting again, but here's a peek at the results so far:

To quote my husband: "I think we have moved past Johnson County beige."

Sassy, right?? Now to get some art on those walls.
LOVE our new Ballard fixture in the entry, too!

Also, if I disappear this week, it's because my dreams came true and I had this baby early.
Mama's ready.

Sometimes I wonder how I've held out this long without finding out whether Baby Reed is a little he or she. (We'll know in a mere two weeks, give or take!) I find this to be especially so when I come across shops like this one with gorgeous, vibrant floral art prime for nurseryness (new term).

Awfully purty, right?? Also incredibly affordable.

I would like to be at this bar right now, drinking all of those delicious bevvies.

In all actuality, my craving for adult beverages is only really bad when I'm scrolling through my Instagram feed or the words "happy" and "hour" are anywhere near the same sentence. Otherwise, I can't lie -- I don't miss hangovers at. all.

How was everyone's weekend??

Obsessed with the fabric on those chairs.
Also with this nursery from the same home.

I dig the impact of the rug, but I'm not sure I love the rug.

Hope you all had a great weekend! We acquired a new piece for the formal. This was, of course, totally necessary because when you spot things on Craigs, you have to jump whether you actually need them or not. Amiright? So now I can say a room in our house is actually done!! Hell hath frozen over.

The nursery is very close behind. I just want it to be ready already! We hit the 37 week mark on Saturday, which means we should technically be prepared for bambino to arrive at any time. Cra-zy. I was 1cm dilated at my last doctor appointment -- yes, I know it can take weeks to dilate further, but that really did light a fire!

Snagged a couple other beauties while scouring one of our local antique malls for a dining table. I came up short on the table, but apparently can't pass up the brass no matter how hard I try.

Totes had to.
Happy Monday!

July 18, 2013

Hello hello! Sorry to miss you guys yesterday. We had family in, which meant play time last night and lots of cleaning the night before. (Don't you love that having people over is the number one only reason to deep clean?)

I had something else planned for today's post but then I came across the adorable Candy Kirby Designs and couldn't help but post these presh tot leggings. This is a very literal want them in every color post, friends. So. Cute.

She also sells really bad ass crib sheets. Umm...daaaayum.
Wish I knew I was having a girl. I'd be all over that!

So I missed the chance to tell my fellow Americans happy 4th last week. Oopsies. Hope everyone, regardless of where you reside, had a wonderful weekend! We got a LOT accomplished around hurr, which feels amazing. This little bambino is sneaking up on us and it's all making me a little anxious. I hear they don't need much to start, but you know every first time mom wants that shiz in place. (Even the procrastinating ones - ha!) So we're close....ish. The crib is painted and back together and we're making progress on the nursery closet overhaul.

It worked out that I got a lot of family time over the long weekend as well. Couldn't be happier about that. My little brother and I are very close, but don't really manage to spend much one on one time together...when my car needed some work, he ended up chauffeuring me around for a day just the two of us, and it was so so great. Wish we had made more time for days like that!

Eric and I also indulged in some down time with a little date night on Wednesday and a few lazy evenings cuddled up on the couch. While I haven't been terribly emotional during this pregnancy (unless you count my shortening temper), watching What Dreams May Come on Saturday night really brought on the waterworks! Have you guys seen that? Wow. It had been awhile for me -- way before the man of my dreams, the idea of children, and having to put a pet down -- and lemme tell ya, the raccoon look was in full effect.

So there's my Dear Diary entry for the month. Holy novel.

And if you follow BIA on Instagram or Facebook, you know that the above shots inspired some nursery action this weekend.
More to come on that soon...

Guest Post // Art Inspired on Mimosa Lane

July 3, 2013

Sorry to leave you guys hanging yesterday. Eric and I were due a quiet night with some face time. (Do you ever notice that -- as wonderful as it is to have friends and family visit -- when you're alone again, you feel like you haven't seen each other for days? So strange.)

Today I have an extra special Art Inspired for you over at Mimosa Lane, where I'm filling in for the very sweet and stylish Albertina. I'll be playing off of the incredible watercolor work of Rebecca Newport...

July 1, 2013

Happy Monday! We're coming off an amazing baby shower high with friends and family over the weekend. I must say it again -- my cup seriously runneth over. I'd been feeling like preparing for this wee one was a bit like planning a wedding. (I may or may not tend to put a lot of pressure on myself when it comes to - oh - everything.) But I have to say that now I just feel so so grateful not only to have a healthy babe on the way, but such an incredible extended family to introduce him or her to! Even though we still have many things to do and figure out, I just feel this overwhelming sense of calm. Finally. It's wonderful.

I'm sure a week or two out, I'll be a complete wreck all over again.

I digress.

Gaby just posted this space last week, but it was so good that I couldn't help but use it for today's Monday Blues. Smitten with the brightness, the pattern play and that grounding black of the chair.

Hope you are all in for a fabulous week ahead!

June 24, 2013

Happy Monday! Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. I have to say, we had an awesome and productive week off. A little bit of time out of town...a lot of progress on things we just couldn't get accomplished (who knew you had to shop for daycare years in advance in this city?!)...and even a few late mornings in bed. Amazing! Guessing I won't get another week like that for...oh...18 years :)

Wish I had more news to report on the dining room front, but I'm still working on the table bu'niss. I both love and hate Craigslist for the back and forth and coordination it often requires. This is where it pays to be patient, I guess. I did like one suggestion of finding an awesome base and then figuring out a tabletop afterwards. Sort of like this mayhaps:

I know hubs would loooooove to see a geometric concrete base.
Pretty sure I would love to see one of those Apparatus fixtures hanging from the ceiling.

June 17, 2013

Happy Monday, party people. Are we ready for another week? I actually have this week off with the intention of getting as many things knocked out as humanly possible....things like a waaaaaaaaay overdue eye appointment (I'd been putting this off because I heard rumor that your vision can change during pregnancy, but I'm supremely delinquent on the pair of contacts I've been wearing)...touring the hospital...looking into daycare...finding a pediatrician....working on the nursery (and now the office that is frighteningly overrun with homeless items previously in the nursery)...you know, all of the fun stuff that's hard to tackle on top of regular life.

I might sneak some fun in there, too.

What we WON'T be tackling anytime soon is our master bedroom. I knew this would be the case from day one, but I still itch to make our room a sanctuary. I have been dead set on charcoal grass cloth, but can't seem to pull the trigger because of the price tag. It's just too extravagant when there are so many other things draining the bank account. So we will continue to hold out until that can happen....or until I change my mind on the grass cloth. Whichever comes first.

I came across this master bedroom designed by Emily Henderson recently, and I really love the look and feel. Fresh, bold, and the right mix of old and new. Definitely going into the inspiration file.

Those geode lamps were overdone in blogland with a quickness, so I haven't considered them despite the assortment of delicious candy colors....until I saw the picture above. And now I really want one! A burl wood campaign dresser perch wouldn't hurt either.

Love how she faked larger windows with the curtains. Also sort of obsessed with the gold curtains and curtain rods. Delicious contrast with the blues. Well done, Emily.

Not that she needs my approval. I think we already knew she was awesome, didn't we?
